Bespoke Aromatherapy Blending Service |
Although modern aromatherapy practice has only originated in the last hundred years, the use of essential oils to heal the mind, body and spirit can be traced back to all of the major ancient civilisations of the world. In the modern world, aromatherapy began to be developed by a french chemist, Rene Gattefosse in the 1920's. He discovered their untapped healing potential after a laboratory accident, in which he plunged his hand into a jar he thought contained water. It actually contained lavender oil, whose properties caused his burned hand to heal at an accelerated rate. Later, another frenchman Dr Jean Valnet, successfully treated psychiatric patients with essential oils, demonstrating their effects not only on the physical body, but on the mind and emotions.
All essential oil blends are for external use only and should not be ingested under any circumstances. They should be kept away from the eyes and well out of the reach of children. Most essential oils are completely unsuitable for use during pregnancy, although exceptions to this exist.
Aromatherapy differs from orthodox medicine in that the blends are designed to treat the whole person, as well as the symptoms they display.
There are many benefits associated with using aromatherapy as a complementary treatment. We believe that this is because the emphasis is placed on holistic health and on clients taking control of and being active in their own healthcare.

What are essential oils?
Essential oils are highly concentrated and powerful volatile plant extracts. They are diluted for use in aromatherapy and are very rarely used in a undiluted form . If they are used undiluted it will only be in very specific instances. Essential oils are highly volatile and they evaporate quickly when exposed to the air they also react with sunlight and so they should be kept in airtight dark coloured glass bottles to preserve their potency.
Why use them and not something cheaper and easier that just smells like them?
The chemical composition of the essential oils and plant extracts are what makes them work. If you were just to use the fragrance, it would have a much reduced effectiveness and may not work at all.
What can you use them for?
Essential oils can be blended in thousands of different ways and are valid for use in every possible situation. They can be used in the bath, as a body oil, in an oil burner or fragrance diffuser or as as perfume or room spray in an atomiser.
How
long do they last?
Essential oils are a natural product and as such have a resonalbly limited shelf life. We would recommend using all Moon Thirteen Aromatherapy products within six months of their creation to ensure that they are always in their best possible condition for use.
